Penalties for misusing the certificate
Any person who knowingly provides false information or misuses their
Vanuatu National Overseas ID shall be liable to:
A fine not exceeding VT 1,000,000;
Imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year;
Both.
Legal basis
The implementation of the VNOS programme will rely on the following
legislative frameworks:
Vanuatu Immigration Act [CAP. 66]: Establishes the legal basis for the
VNOS, detailing their structure, rights, and procedures for issuance and
renewal.
Digital credentials under VNOS are not classified as travel documents
and will be regulated exclusively under the Immigration Act.
